Clara Pearl (Blakely) Hunter

Clara Pearl Blakely Hunter was born July, 31, 1932 as the second daughter of the late Theodore and Gena Blakely. On April 27, 2017 she followed her two siblings, Lois Blakely Wilson and Oliver Blakely by answering the Lord's calling to her heavenly home.

Clara Pearl was raised in Clinton, South Carolina where she graduated from Bell Street High School in 1950. Seeing value in furthering her education, she pursued her Bachelor's degree at Allen University with the aspirations of becoming an English teacher. She would later complete her Master's in Education at South Carolina State University. After 31 years of molding the young minds of South Carolina's middle and high school students, she retired from teaching English in 1985.

Clara Pearl served as president of the missionary at Mount Vernon AME and was honored as a Torch Lighter for her years of service to the missionary. She also served as a Secretary in the Eastern Star Morning Glory, Lodge 191 for 50 years and was a member of Laurens County Teachers Association Retired.

Clara Pearl shared 48 years of marriage with her childhood sweetheart Melvin Joseph Hunter, Sr.(deceased 10/10) until his passing. Together they shared two children, Marjorie H. Johnson (deceased 05/08) and Melvin (Marcia) J. Hunter, Jr. of Matthews, NC.

Throughout her life she enjoyed passing her time with her family and friends!  She was the most fondly known for always trying to enrich the lives of those she met and empowering them in their endeavors.

Her legacy has been imparted into the lives of her five grandchildren, Walter Johnson, Jr., of Bentonville, AR, Melvin Jermaine Hunter of Charlotte, NC, Christina Arrielle Johnson of Clinton, SC, Marcus and Makayla Hunter of Matthews, NC; her four great-children, Makaious, Meliq, Mashyah, and Amargiana; her two loving sisters-in-law, Elise Blakely of Clinton, SC, and Sarah H. Davis of Washington, DC; and a  multitude of nephews, nieces, loving cousins, other relatives and friends.
