Joe Lewis Chambers, Sr., of Clinton, SC, entered into eternal rest on the morning of Thursday, July 20, 2017, at Hospice of Laurens County.  He was the eldest of eight children born to the late Ernest Chambers and the late Ida Jeter Chambers Huff on March 24, 1941. He was predeceased by a younger brother, John Earl Chambers of Charlotte, NC.

He attended schools in Marion, North Carolina.  He was a member of Bread of Life Prophetic Deliverance Ministries in Laurens, SC, where he served as a Deacon and as a member of the Trustee Board.

Mr. Chambers lived a simple life, but he was a very serious man.  Even though he did not have the privilege of getting a higher education, he was able to accomplish a multitude of things in life by the grace of God.  Most of his working days were sent in the textile industry, but he managed to provide for his family.  He was an avid fisherman and hunter; thus, he earned the nickname, "Rabbit Hunting Joe." During the latter years of his life, he was not physically, able to hunt and fish, but God gave him six great grandchildren to help keep him busy.  They were always his pride and joy, and he often said that they were what helped to keep him going strong.

Joe leaves to cherish his memories his loving wife, Viola; his children, Patricia (Robert) Hopp of Clinton, SC, Barbara (Clery "Curt") Bluford, Sr., of Laurens, SC, Joe L. Chambers, Jr. of Clinton, SC, and a stepdaughter, Jessie R. Marshall of Clinton, SC; three grandsons, William (April Newton) Chambers of Laurens, SC, Derrick Chambers of Clinton, SC, and Clery (Cynthia) Bluford, Jr., of Laurens SC; and six great grandchildren, Jalen Bluford, Chi"Kiaya Bluford, Dominic Chambers, Deion Chambers, Enoch Bluford and Dylan Chambers, all of Laurens, SC; three brothers, Ernest Lee Chambers of Marion, NC, Levi (Dorothy) Chambers of Charlotte, NC, and Edward (Judy) Chambers of Charlotte, NC; three sisters, Mary Ann Phillips, Sarah J. McAlilley and Joyce Williams, all of Charlotte, NC; one aunt, Letha Williamson of Charlotte, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He also leaves to cherish his memories, special friends, Mr. David (Brenda) Smith of Clinton, SC, Mr. and Mrs. Leroy Gary of Clinton, SC, and Mr. Willie Grant of Cross Hill, SC.
