Mrs. Bettie C. Shumpert, 63, of Cross Hill, South Carolina, was born in Clinton, South Carolina on February 11, 1956 to the late Joe L. Cook and Polly K. Cook.
Bettie attended Laurens County public schools and was a 1976 graduate of Clinton High School. At an early age, she joined St. John Baptist Church in Cross Hill, South Carolina, where she was a member of the Pastor's Aide Ministry and the Usher Board. After twenty-eight years of employment, she retired from Whitten Center in Clinton, SC. She enjoyed attending church and spending quality time with her family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Roy Shumpert.
On Tuesday, February 19, 2019, Mrs. Shumpert gained her heavenly wings as she entered Eternal Rest at her home in Cross Hill, South Carolina.
She leaves to cherish her fond memories; a son, Tavon Carter of the home; two sisters, Joe Ann Cook and Nellie James both of Cross Hill, SC; one aunt, Sweetie Bell Fuller, of Clinton, SC; two nieces reared in the home, Shatan James, of Cross Hill, SC., and Marquita James of Clinton, SC; two nephews reared in the home, Bryant James of Cross Hill, SC., and Alex James of Clinton, SC; one godson, Lamonte Simpson of Clinton, SC; three sisters-in-law, Brenda Shumpert of Fountain Inn, SC, Rose Jane Shumpert of Simpsonville, SC, and Doris Foster of Waterloo, SC; two brothers-in-law, Jimmy Shumpert of Florida and Wendell Shumpert of Seattle, WA, and a host of loving nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
