On Sunday, April 29, 2018 at 4:35pm God called our beloved angel " Ethel Mae Phelps" to her eternal home.
Ethel was born in Lincolnton, GA on October 29, 1933 to the late Leona Murray Brown and Vincent Mersier.
Ethel graduated high school in Newark, NJ. She was gainfully employed for many years and retired from Greenwood Mills after 20 plus years of service. She was a dedicated member of Macedonia Baptist Church. She was also a member of the Westside Community Club and Chambers Plant Wellness Community. She founded the AWA Alliance nearly 70 years ago with many active members.
She was preceded in death by her ex-husband; Guy Thomas Phelps, two daughters; Pamela Jones and Lois T. Kelley, one son, Steven Jones, and one sister; Lizzie Braswell.
She leaves to cherish her loving memories; Six daughters, Bobbie J. Peterson, Jaqueline Royal both of Greenwood, SC., Carolyn (William) Muhummad, Nafessa Phelps both of Greenville, SC.,Nancy (Issac) Tate of Simpsonville, SC., Tamara Phelps of Charlotte, NC. Three sons; Gregory Jones and Eric Patterson both of Greenwood, SC., and Jermaine Phelps of Laurens, SC. Four step-children; Henrietta Phelps of Greenville, SC., Brenda Aiken of Greenwood, SC., Guy Phelps and Andy Phelps both of Landover, MD. One God-daughter; Marsha Turner of GA. She leaves 57 grandchildren, 88 great-grandchildren, 16 great-great-grandchildren all whom loved their "Granny" dearly, and a host of family, friends and loved ones to cherish her memory.
