T.C. Davis Obituary

Luther T.C. Davis passed away on October 12, 2019 at National Health Care in Clinton, SC.  Born on December 19, 1931, he was the only child of the late Hettie Davis and Gush Byrd.  T.C. was raised by his grandmother, the late Laura Davis, in Laurens, SC., along with several cousins.  In 1963, at the age of thirty-two, he married the late Lois Young and moved to Clinton, South Carolina.  They were married for nearly forty-seven years during which Lois was a constant companion, advocate, and caretaker.  He and Lois did not have children of their own, but they raised some of her nieces and nephews.

T. C, as most of his family and friends called him, attended the public schools in Laurens County.  Even though he was unable to attend services lately due to his failing health, he was a longstanding, faithful, and dues paying member of Duncan Creek Baptist Church in Laurens, South Carolina.  He was proud of being a member of the Union Masonic Lodge No. 1 since 1957 and Men's Aide Society.

During his youth, he worked as a farmer and then for several companies, including Walker Brothers Tree Service and Enoree Mills.  When he retired in 1995, he had been employed at Clinton Mills in Clinton, South Carolina for many years.

T. C. was a quiet, plain-spoken man, who seldom complained or had a harsh word to say about anyone.  He wanted a plain and simple funeral, nothing fancy, no frills  or flowers.  He just wanted to be put away quietly.  He cherished his family.  His family would always count on a phone call or an impromptu visit from him. He was a family historian of sorts, providing invaluable information about his grandparents, siblings and parents.  He enjoyed hunting.  In his spare time, he shared his expertise in pork butchering with others in Newberry and Laurens Counties.

In addition to his parents and his grandmother, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Hugh Lee Elmore and Willie L. Little.

He leaves to cherish his memory a son; Darrell (Celina) Young; a stepson, Stanley Young; a sister, Dr. Joyce Everett of Pikesville, Maryland; two loving and caring nieces, Vernisha Boyd and Delores "Lois Fuller both of Clinton, SC; two nephews, Erik Wiley of Atlanta, GA and Christopher Duckett of  Pennsylvania, PA; several loving cousins, Gladys Shannon of Philadelphia, PA; Eunice Davis of Detroit, MI. Willie Marian Davis of New York, NY, Willie Johnson of Greenville, SC, Billy Joe Johnson, John Young, Thelma Young, Laura A. Young, and Evelyn Davis all of Laurens, SC; Mason Young of Simpsonville, SC,  many other relatives and friends who will miss him dearly.
