Violet Miller

Ms. Violet Miller (affectionately known as "Vilo") was born on May 17, 1929 to the late Mrs. Emma Gilliam Young of Joanna, SC and reared by mother and stepfather, Mr. James Young.

Vilo was educated in the public schools of Joanna, SC and joined Mt. Zion AME Church of Joanna, SC at an early age.

She loved her church, her family and was well known county-wide for her good cooking.

For thirty-five years she was employed with Presbyterian College as a head cook and received numerous awards and accolades for her tenure.

She was preceded in death by her grandson, Titus Simpson and her long-time companion, Mr. Eugene Higgins Murphy.

Ms. Miller leaves to cherish her fond loving memories, two daughters, Kimberly Ann Simpson and Karen Elaine (James) Pressley both of Clinton, SC; two granddaughters, Mrs. Ursula Paterson (Bert) of Rock Hill, SC, Ms. Jakara Simpson of Clinton, SC., a grandson Andreus Pressley of Clinton, SC., seven great grandchildren; Dorian Miller of Rock Hill, SC, Kemora Gary of Pelzer, SC, Alonzo Montrez Gary, of Fayetteville, NC; Ja' Mya Simpson and Willie Gary, Jr,. ,both of Clinton,  SC; ,Micah Patterson and Kamryn Patterson of Rock Hill, SC.; three great-great-grandchildren Jazmine Miller, Destiny Miller both of Rock Hill, SC; Kemyidre Young of Pelzer, SC; and a host of cousins, family and friends.
