Bennie Lee Dowdy Jr.

Bennie Lee Dowdy, Jr. 82 of 207 Bell Street Circle, Clinton SC, died August 23, 2023, at his residence. He was born in Laurens County, March 6, 1941, to the late Bennie Lee Sr. and Sunnie Coleman Dowdy.

He was a member of New Bethel A.M.E. Church and a graduate of Bell Street High School class of 1959. He previously retired from Whitten Center.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, James Pete Dowdy, and Calvin Dowdy and a grandson, Zion Dowdy.

Surviving to cherish his memories are one brother, Melvin (Marilyn) Dowdy, a cousin reared in the home, Matthew (Mary) Young, both of Clinton, SC; one sister, Ollie (Arthur) Booker of Columbia, SC; seven children, Bennie Franks, Michael Dowdy, both of Clinton, SC, Phyllis (John) McClamy of Suffolk, VA, Lisa (Gerald) Hunt of Simpsonville, SC, Angelia Toland Hall of Laurens, SC, Natasha Wideman of Simpsonville, SC, Zachary Dowdy of Greenwood, SC; step daughter, Paige (Venture) Belton of Abbeville, SC; 18 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Betty Dowdy, of Clinton, SC and a host of nephews, nieces, family and friends.
