Mrs. Corinne Davenport Leake DeBorous was born in Laurens County, South Carolina on December 6, 1926 to the late Mr. Ben Leake and Mrs. Asilee Young Leake.
She attended the public schools of Laurens County and was a graduate of Bell Street High in Clinton, South Carolina.
At an early age, she joined Hebron Baptist Church in Clinton, South Carolina. She met and married her first husband, the late Mr. William Booker. From this union, they were blessed with two children, Anne Booker Washington of Laurens, South Carolina and the late Mr. James Booker.
Corine relocated from Clinton, South Carolina to Washington, District of Columbia. While there, she joined Vermont Avenue Baptist Church where she served as an usher and the BTU. Later, she met and married Eddie T. DeBorous at which time Kenneth Leake, her nephew, was reared in their home.
After fifty-one years of employment as an accountant by the Federal Government in the District of Columbia, she retired and relocated back to Clinton, South Carolina. Upon her arrival, she rejoined Hebron Baptist Church where she served as a member of the Usher Ministry, the Sunshine Club, and the Busy Bee Club. Corinne enjoyed attending church events, modeling, and being an avid reader. She also took pride in her travels as she traveled twice around the world.
In addition to her parents and both of her husbands, she was preceded in death by a son, James Booker; one granddaughter, Tanye Renee Taylor; two sisters, Elizabeth Leake Ferguson and Clara Leake Turner; one brother, Raymond Leake; and a son-in-law, Anthony Washington.
On Sunday, January 26, 2020, Mrs. Corinne DeBorous departed this life and entered Eternal Rest at the age of ninety-three.
She leaves to cherish her memories her daughter, Anne Washington; a nephew reared in the home, Kenneth (Wendy) Leake of Forestville, MD; one grandson, Denunzio (Erika) Washington of Raleigh, NC; four great-grandsons, Dwight (Shelice)Taylor, Darnell (E'lesha) Taylor of Dayton, OH, Parish Taylor of Columbus, OH, and Denunzio Washington, Jr., of Raleigh, NC; one great-granddaughter, Kristine Taylor of Columbus, OH; four great-great grandchildren, R'Niya Busbee, Dalani Taylor, Dwight, Jr., and Teonna Tyson; one sister, Rachel Leake Stewart of Washington, DC; one devoted niece, Carolyn Williams of Columbia, SC; an extraordinary friend, Mary Ann Reid of Clinton, SC; two special cousins, Johnnie Vee Brown and Ruby Smith both of Clinton, SC; and a host of other relatives, church family, neighbors, and friends who will miss her dearly.
