Mrs. Ethel Mae Gary was born February 22, 1942, in Laurens County, South Carolina to the late Robert Godfrey and the late Alice Young Godfrey. On Wednesday, March 11, 2026, Mrs. Gary entered into eternal rest at Hospice of Laurens County in Clinton, South Carolina.
She was a member of Elzee AME Church and was also a member of Woman Home Aid Society Lodge #79. For 50 years, Mrs. Gary was the head cook at Presbyterian College. She enjoyed shopping and spending time with her family and friends.
Mrs. Gary was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Sammy Gary, daughter, Brenda Young and grandson, Rico Dillard.
She leaves to cherish her memories to her son, Sammy Gary; her daughters, Angela Gary, Sarah Gary, Ethel Godfrey; her sisters, Lena Smith, Hattie Richardson; eight grandchildren, Calvin (Dee) Godfrey, Clifton Bailey, Martin Bailey, Christopher Godfrey, Quintin Godfrey, Patrick Godfrey, Andrika (Derrick) Bluford, and Janay Gary; special nephews, Ricki Smith and Tony Gary; special great granddaughter, Amadisyn Bluford and a host of great grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
