Mrs. Fannie Mae Dendy Makins, of 967 South Harper Street Extension, Laurens, South Carolina was born on October 8, 1938 in Cross Hill, South Carolina to the late John Willie and Lois Dendy.
She attended the public schools of Laurens County and was a graduate of Sanders High School Class of 1956. She was employed with Palmetto Spinning in Laurens, South Carolina for over twelve years until her health began to decline. She was also a member of the Women's Aide Society No. 39.
At an early age, she joined St. John Baptist Church in Cross Hill, South Carolina.
Fannie was loved by all. She never met a stranger and she always welcomed everyone. She would always go the last mile to help those in need and she would give you her last. Fannie is best described as being strong, kindhearted, nurturing, loving, and generous.
She wasn't just a mom to her biological children, she was the neighborhood mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who took care of all of the kids in the neighborhood and made sure everyone, regardless of who they were, taken care of. Her home was open to all!
Fannie was a very smart woman and she had a great sense of humor. And don't take her kindness for granted because if you messed up, she would talk junk to you. She loved to have fun and talked junk even during her sickness. Even the doctors and nurses fell in love with her all throughout her hospital stay. Although she had her share of ups and downs throughout her life, you would never know she was in pain because she didn't complain about anything.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Makins, Sr; a granddaughter, Jaquisha Kiera Makins; four sister, Martha "Mae Lee" Dendy, Cornelia Anderson, Bertha Bluford, and Martha Ella Anderson, one brother, John Henry Dendy; one son-in-law, Richard D. Payne, and daughter-in-law, Mrs. Robyn Wood.
On Saturday, April 20, 2019, Fannie's sunset of life came as she passed away at the age of 80.
