Mr. James Franklin Briggs was born September 21, 1954, in Laurens County, South Carolina to the late William Moses Briggs and Mary Lou Redd Briggs.
He attended the public schools of Laurens County, South Carolina.
"Big," as he was lovingly called by many who knew and loved him, was a member of Springfield Missionary Baptist Church in Laurens, South Carolina.
After forty-five years of employment, he retired from W.R. Grace in Enoree, South Carolina.
Along with spending time with his family, James loved to fish and hunt.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Bettie Briggs; three brothers: Johnny M. Briggs, Downs Louis Briggs, and Charles Briggs; and two sisters: Wilhelmenia Pinson and Lizzie Parks.
On Thursday, February 12, 2026, Mr. James Franklin Briggs departed this life as he transitioned from Labor to Reward at Greenville Memorial Hospital in Greenville County, South Carolina.
He leaves to cherish his fond memories his son, Demetrius Jamall Briggs; his daughter, Natarsha Briggs; one brother, Willie Penson; three sisters, Relois Briggs, Carrie B. Coleman, and Daisy Shepherd, one aunt, Inez Boozer; In-laws: Lucille (James) Wallace, Moselee (Rickey) Simpson, Essie Powers, Sara Briggs, Charles (Renae) Powers, Marshall Powers, and Jerry Powers; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends who will miss him dearly.
