Mr. James Robert Long, Sr. was born on October 17, 1946, in Laurens County, South Carolina to the late Thelma Long.
He attended the public schools of Laurens County, South Carolina and was a graduate of the Bell Street High School Class of 1964. He furthered his education after high school and graduated from Midland Technical College in 1973.
James was formerly employed with Torrington Plant (Timken) in Clinton, South Carolina.
He was a member of Hebron Baptist Church in Clinton, South Carolina.
Mr. Long was also a member of the VFW (Veteran of Foreign Wars, DAV (Disabled American Veteran), Shriners, and the Rose of Bethlehem Lodge #443. He served for twenty-eight years in the United States Army and the South Carolina National Guard as well retiring as a First Sargeant.
In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his wife, Rose Marie Long; one son, Phillip Bernard Long; and four brothers: David Williams, Rodger Williams, Phil Williams, and Michael "Bric" Williams.
On Tuesday, December 27, 2022, Mr. James Robert Long, Sr. departed this life at Spartanburg Regional Hospital in Spartanburg, South Carolina and entered Eternal Rest at the age of seventy-six.
James had a great love for his family and for traveling. His loving memories will be cherished by his four sons: Rodney Eugene Long, James (Brenda) Robert Long, Jr., Darcey Simmons, and Daryl Simmons; two daughters: Jacqueline (Jerome) Lovette and Teresa Smiley; a host of grandchildren; two brothers: William Long Jr. and Christopher (Kaye) Williams; his sister, Frances Harris; five sisters-in-law: Wanda Williams, Bessie Eaddy Williams, Cora Sales, Johnnie Mae Vance, and Azalea; three brothers-in-law: Tommy Simmons, Claude Simmons, and Bennie Simmons; a special friend, Mattie Bowers DeBramaletta; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends who will miss him dearly.
