Mrs. Lucinda "Cindy" Simpson Simmons, age 84, youngest of 14 children born to the late Blufford Douglas Simpson and Hattie Simpson, was born in Laurens County, South Carolina, on October 20, 1935, and went home to be with the Lord on January 18, 2020. She was the wife of the late Horace Simmons.
At an early age, she joined the Fairview African Methodist Episcopal Church in Clinton, South Carolina, where she was a loyal and faithful member. She served as a steward, a member of the Usher Board and wherever she was needed. She was a member of the Women's Home Aid Society, Lodge#3. She was a past employee of Greenwood Mills, E.L. Mansure and retired from the South Carolina Department of Disabilities and Special Needs at the Whitten Center Campus in Clinton.
She was preceded in death by her siblings: Annie, Lillie, Mary, Sister, Willie Mae, Errie, Blufford, Jr., Eath, Henry, Timothy, Ed, Colley and Hubert.
To know Lucinda "Cindy" was to love her. She was affectionately called, "Aunt Cindy" by most. She was a loving and devoted mother, kind, caring and a joy to be around. She was a very unique person; a smile always graced her face and there were no strangers in her life because she made everybody she met feel special. She never refused to give a helping hand to anyone in need.
Lucinda "Cindy" leaves her legacy of love and caring to her family: three daughters, Gracie Hearst of Irmo, SC, Cora Stegall (Canyus) of Columbia, SC, and Margie Mayes of Taylors, SC; six grandchildren, Tasha Walker (Robert) of Suwanee, GA, Kare Stegall of Columbia, SC., Porterfield Mayes, Jr., of Taylors, SC, LaRon Hearst (Angela) of Jacksonville, FL; twelve great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, family and a special friend of the family Shirley Henderson, who was like a daughter, and others whom she would tell, "You're one of mine too."
She didn't have any biological sons: but she indeed had sons; her nephews, cousins and family friends who did yard work, home repairs, car repairs and anything she asked of them, who will all miss her dearly.
