Lucius Donald Pitts was born February 12, 1956 in Brooklyn, NY to the late Lucinda
Cora Pitts and the late Melvin Cox. He was reared in the home of his grandparents,
Pierce Pitts and Rosa Lee Miller Pitts in Clinton, SC.
As a young boy, Lucius joined Hebron Baptist Church. During the latter years of his life,
he became a member of Bethlehem Grove Baptist Church where he worshiped
regularly.
He attended the Laurens County District 56 Schools and graduated from Clinton High
School, Class or 1974. He then furthered his education and received his BA Degree
from USC Upstate in Spartanburg. Although Lucius played football during one of his
high school years, his greatest love was basketball. His passion for the sport earned
him the scholarship to attend USC Upstate where he played for the Spartans.
Lucius retired from the Salvation Army Kingsborough Men’s Shelter of Brooklyn, NY
where he was a Program Director and Clinical Counselor. Following his retirement, he
became employed at Whitten Center as a QMRP and worked as an assistant teacher to
Special Education Students.
He leaves to cherish special memories: his loving wife, Sophia Gilliam Pitts of the home;
daughter, Mali Renee Pitts of Orlando Florida; son, Lucius Donald Pitts, Jr. of Brooklyn,

Mehkai Kyan Thompson of Orlando; sister, Myra Pitts Burton of Summerville, SC;
