Martha Ann (McGowan) Young

Ms. Martha Ann McGown Young was born in Laurens County, South Carolina to the late Lucious and Alice Brown McGowan on August 31, 1939.

She attended the public schools of Laurens County, South Carolina.

At an early age, she joined Bethel Missionary Baptist Church in Cross Hill, South Carolina.  She was also a member of the Woman's Aide Society as well as an Eastern Star.

Martha was employed for many years in the textile industry, National Healthcare, and Presbyterian College in Clinton, South Carolina.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one grandson, Brush Young; and one sister, Fannie M. McGowan.

On Saturday, September 17, 2022, the precious spirit of Martha Ann Young passed from Earth to Eternity to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at the age of eighty-three.

She leaves to cherish her sweet memories three sons:  Reverend Dr. Alan (Jennifer) Young of Plainfield, IL, Wendell Young of Clinton, SC, and Antonio Young of Aurora, CO; five daughters:  Ernestine (Reverend Melvin) Young of DeLand, FL, Annette (Michael) Johnson of Clinton, SC, Karen Workman of Woodruff, SC, Lenita Young Irby of Greenville, SC, and Andretha (Michael) Richey of Clinton, SC; one brother, Walter (Linda) McGowan of Cross Hill, SC; two sisters:  Johnnie V. McGowan and Lorraine McGowan both of Cross Hill, SC; twenty-three grandchildren; thirty-three great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; two sisters-in-law:  Julia Henly of Lawnside, NJ and Ida Pierce of Philadelphia, PA; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
