Ms. Mary Helen Peake was born in Laurens County, South Carolina on July 12, 1950, to the late Elbert Perry Byrd and Annie Dillard Byrd formerly of Clinton, South Carolina.
She attended the public schools of Laurens County, South Carolina and was a graduate of the Bell Street High School Class of 1968 in Clinton, South Carolina. She furthered her education at Piedmont Technical College where she earned a degree as a Licensed Practical Nurse. She was employed for several years as a hospice nurse.
Mary was a former member of Bethlehem Grove Baptist Church in Clinton, South Carolina. She was a current member and Assistant Pastor of Glory Church in Moore, South Carolina.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, John Henry Byrd.
On Wednesday, October 6, 2021, Ms. Mary Helen Byrd Peake departed this life in Spartanburg County, South Carolina and journeyed from labor to reward at the age of seventy-one.
She leaves behind a Godly legacy to her daughters: Cassandra (Rico) Cunningham of Moore, SC and Tammy (Terrence) Wyatt of Greenville, SC; six grandchildren: Kristen Peake of Greenville, SC, Brittany (Marcal) LaGroon of Greer, SC, Maryah Peake of Mauldin, SC, Isaac and Isaiah Cunningham of Moore, SC, and Madison Wyatt of Greenville, SC; three great grandchildren: Nicholas Smith, Nolan Young, and Mattox LaGroon all of Greer, SC; five sisters: Annie Walker, Maggie (William, Sr.) Foster, Jeanette (Robert) Jones all of Clinton, SC, Rosa Peake of Riverview, FL, and Lilian Byrd of Mauldin, SC; her lifelong childhood friend, Clatie Putman of Clinton, SC; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends who will miss her dearly.
Mary loved the Lord with all of her heart and the family takes solace in knowing that she is with Him in Heaven. She loved singing and she loved fishing, but most of all she loved all people with the love of God.
