Mildred Stevenson Obituary

Ms. Mildred Watson Stevenson was born in Clinton, South Carolina on  December 6, 1938 to the late John Watson and Adeline Chappelle Watson.

At an early age, she accepted Christ and joined New Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Clinton, South Carolina.

Mildred attended the public schools of Laurens County, South Carolina where she graduated in the Bell Street High School Class of 1956.

She later followed in her siblings' footsteps by moving to Wilmington, Delaware. She eventually moved back to Clinton, South Carolina to take care of her ailing mother and settled back in her hometown in 1981. She rejoined New Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church where she served as a Stewardess.

Ms. Stevenson was driven to serve others and worked at Whitten Center in Clinton, South Carolina to fulfill this passion. She retired after twenty years of employment there.

She loved to cook, garden, shop, and spend time with her family. She was always in the kitchen baking a cake or cooking an enormous meal for her family. Just like her mother and sisters, she spent countless hours in her garden taking care of her flowers. When she wasn't cooking or gardening, she was shopping at Belk or talking on her phone to her sisters. She truly enjoyed laying across her comfy bed watching soap operas or a Lifetime movie. She had a kind spirit and touched the life of each person she encountered. Mildred will truly be missed by those she loved and touched deeply.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Linwood Stevenson, two brothers: Clarence O. Watson and Harrison L. Watson; and two sisters: Beatrice W. Higgins and Johnnie Mae Thigpen.

On Thursday, April 7, 2022, in Laurens County, South Carolina, Ms. Mildred Watson Stevenson gained her Heavenly wings and went to be with our Heavenly Father at the age of eighty-three.

She leaves to cherish her loving memories to three sons, Warren (Sharon) Stevenson of Gray Court, SC, Ronald (Joyce) Stevenson of Laurens, SC,, Thomas Stevenson of Clinton, SC; two daughters:, Diane Stevenson of Clinton, SC and  Celeste (Barion) Sanders of Tampa Fl; eleven stepchildren; seventeen grandchildren; twenty-six great grandchildren; two brothers: Willie H. Watson Sr. and John E.
