Othella Evans Obituary

Mrs. Othella Chase Evans was born August 29,1946 in Washington, D.C., to the late William Edward Chase and Viola Dendy Chase.

She peacefully entered eternal rest on the morning of Thursday, July 3, 2025.

Othella graduated from Bell Street High School in Clinton, South Carolina, in 1964. She later attended South Carolina State College before beginning her professional teaching career in the public school system at Ford Elementary School in Laurens, South Carolina. She eventually transitioned to Whitten Center, where she continued to share her passion for teaching by helping students develop essential work and life skills. Othella dedicated twenty-six years of service before retiring. She also held membership in the Order of the Eastern Star during her life.

Affectionately known as "Nana," Othella was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who poured endless love into her family. Her unwavering strength and resilience allowed her to lead with both grace and compassion. Together with her late husband of forty-three years,  Lorenzo O. Evans, Jr., she built a warm and loving home. She was known for her incredible cooking, her love of reading, holiday crafting, and tending to her beautiful flowers. Othella will be remembered for her feisty, witty spirit, her passion for what she believed in, and her lifelong dedication to teaching, both inside and outside the classroom.

She leaves to cherish her memory two beloved children, Angela Trapp (James) and Lorenzo ‘Trey’ Evans III; six grandchildren, Amanda Trapp-Chandler (Shani), Amir J Trapp, James D. Trapp (Olivia), Elexsis Trapp, Tamira Evans, and Taneal Evans; and six great-grandchildren, Ayce, Rowan, Oaklyn, Oraya, Kannan, and K'son.

She is also survived by six sisters, Burnell Cureton, Lottie Mae Brooks, Carlyta Chase, Vickie Pitt (Frank), Carolyn Chase, and Sharon Chase; two brothers, Rodney Chase and James "Ricky" Chase (Ivy). She was preceded in death by one sister, Bertha Mason, and one brother, William "Billy" Chase.

Othella also leaves behind a host of other cherished relatives and friends whose lives were touched by her love, kindness, and wisdom.
