Steve Darbins Obituary

Mr. Steve Merrill Darbins was born to Thelma E. Darbins and Ralph Wilson on May 26, 1954, at Bailey Memorial Hospital. His grandparents George Darby and Laura Williams Darbins were an integral part of his village during his formative years.

He was a member of Bethlehem Grove Baptist Church. A product of the Laurens County School System, he matriculated through Bell Street School and then Clinton High School. He received his High School Diploma as a member of the class of 1972.Steve furthered his education at South Carolina State (University) in Orangeburg, South Carolina. In May 1976, Steve graduated with a bachelor's degree in Business Administration. Aspiring to use his degree, he live and worked for a short time in Detroit, Michigan. He returned home after the untimely death of his brother, Mike to be closer to his mother.

Steve gained employment shortly after returning home with Clinton Mills. He remained employed there until it closed in 2001. Steve was also employed at Whitten Center for several years as a Child Care Attendant, before retiring fully in 2015.

Steve was an avid music lover, spending many days listening to the latest hits on his reel to reel or vinyl albums. He shared that love of good music with anyone who stopped by the trailer on Bell Street. He also started taking pictures that have helped to commemorate good memories of family gatherings to include reunions, graduations, proms, and road trips. Other talents included woodworking as he spent many days and evenings in his shed with a favorite beverage creating something beautiful and well crafted.

Steve was preceded in death by his grandparents: George Darby and Laura Williams Darbins; mother, Thelma E. Darbins; father, Ralph Wilson; one brother, Michael K. Darbins; beloved aunts and uncles: Sam Williams, Hanson (Gussie) Williams, Mable  (Will) Nance, Nathaniel (Louise) Darbins, Armanda (Leroy) Suber, Robert (Mamie) Darbins and Robert Wiggins.

Mr. Steve Merrill Darbins entered into eternal rest at Self Regional Healthcare in Greenwood, South Carolina, on Thursday, June 12, 2025, at the age of seventy-one.

He leaves to cherish memories of his life: a brother, Dexter W. (Sharon) Darbins; two aunts, Brunell D. Wiggins and Rosa Lee (Jacob) Simpson; three nieces: Benesha Wesley, Quentashia Darbins, and Brittany Darbins; a grandnephew, Malik Speaks; three grandnieces: Breniya Speaks and his "little sweeties" Jadea Uddyback and Jasmine Uddyback; and a close nit circle of cousins and numerous friends.
