Sylvia Evans Calwile was born in Laurens County, South Carolina on December 15, 1952, to Claude Evans, Jr. and Pearl Campbell Evans.
She was educated in the public schools of Laurens County, South Carolina where she was a proud Sanders High School Yellowjacket and a graduate of the Laurens High School Class of 1971.
She was also a member of Springfield Missionary Baptist Church in Laurens, South Carolina where she served faithfully as a member of the Helping Hands Ministry, the Senior Choir, and the Prayer Ministry.
Sylvia, affectionately known by family and friends as "Punkin", was employed for many years as a bus driver until leaving to care for her husband.
She loved spending time with her family and friends, especially on shopping trips and was an avid Dallas Cowboy fan.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Calwile; her son, Marion C. Calwile; one brother, Charlie D. Evans; and three sisters: Pastor Alberta Foggie, Juanita Young, and Wilhelmina Pinson.
On Saturday, October 18, 2025, Sylvia Evans Calwile departed this life at her home in Laurens, South Carolina at the age of seventy-two.
She leaves to cherish her memories three daughters: Cheryl C. (Bernard) Cofield, Tonya Calwile (Curry) Ellis, Minister Krystal-Joy Calwile; one son, Ian G. Calwile; one daughter-in-law, Latosha Putman Calwile; four grandchildren: Jatez Calwile, Tre' Coleman, Tyaja Coleman, and Aniyah Cofield; seven great grandchildren: Brayden Young, Zymere Calwile, Khaliyah Phelps, E'yonnis Calwile, Genius Calwile, Gianna Calwile, and Ace Coleman; two sisters: Charlotte (Willie) Coleman and Jacqueline Redd; one brother, James Evans; four godchildren: Mattie Williams, Daniel Gary, Danielle Gary, and Kaleb Gary; and a host of other relatives and friends.her sisters, Charlotte (Willie) Coleman, Jacqueline Redd; four grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
