Taneal Evans Obituary

Ms. Taneal Janay Evans was born April 9, 2005, in Laurens, South Carolina, to Lorenzo ‘Trey’ Evans and Ms. Sharyl Richey.

Affectionately known by family and friends as "Taneal", she entered eternal rest on Friday, October 3, 2025, in Clinton, South Carolina.

Taneal was educated in the Laurens County School District and was a 2024 graduate of Clinton High School, were she shines both in the classroom and on the court. A gifted athlete, Taneal was a standout star on the Clinton High School Girls Basketball Team. Her love for the game was undeniable--her hustle, determination, and passion inspired both teammates and spectators.

Coach Jakara "Auntie" Speaks was the first to recognize Taneal's raw talent and pull it out of her- nurturing her potential and pushing her to shine on and off the court. Under her guidance, Taneal grew into a phenomenal player and an inspiring presence for those around her. Whether driving in the basket, making a clutch defensive stop, or rallying her team with her infectious energy, Taneal's presence on the court was electric!

From a young age her love and talent for the game, led her to play with several basketball teams across the region, she started out playing at the YMCA. She later played for LC Elite and Lady Sparks were she built lasting friendships and left unforgettable memories. She played the game with heart, grit, and joy-leaving her mark as a true star athlete.

Outside of basketball, Taneal had an infectious smile and a warm and radiant spirit that lit up every room she entered. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, sharing laughter, and encouraging those around her Taneal was employed at Saati in Simpsonville, South Carolina, were she was known for her positive attitude.

She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Mr. Lorenzo Evans Sr. and Mrs. Othella Evans and Uncle Russell Richey.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories her parents, Mr. Lorenzo Evans III and Ms. Sharyl Richey; her siblings: Jasmine (Justin) Richey, Aaliyah (Devin) Simpson, Tamira Evans, and Lamonta Simpson; grandmother, Rosa Lee Copeland; uncles: Kenneth (Melody) Richey, Dennis (Loretta) Richey, Barry (Angela) Richey and Darryl Richey; aunts: Angel (James) Trapp and Karen Richey; special aunts and uncles: Michelle Young, Tameka Barr, Taleta Bluford, and Walter (Shemeika) Goodwin; god-parents, Allen and Marcia Butler; special friends: AJ Bluford, Rydaijia Mars, and Brymeer Leake; and a host of cousins, teammates, and friends who loved her dearly.

Teneal's life was vibrant and impactful to everyone around her. She leaves a legacy of joy, excellence, and love that will live on in our hearts of all who knew her.
