Thelma Jones Obituary

Mrs. Thelma L. Gibert Jones was born February 16, 1925, to the late John Austin Gibert and Hattie Holloway Gibert in McCormick County, South Carolina.

She was married to Archie David "Pretty Cole" Jones for forty-six years. To this union three daughters and one son were born: Bessie, Thelma, John A., and Glossiphene.

For more than twenty-five years, Mrs. Jones was employed at the Milliken Company's Sharon Plant in Abbeville, South Carolina where she diligently worked as a weaver. She earned respect for her exceptional work ethic and adoration for her delicious plates and pies that she generously shared with her colleagues. Her professionalism and kindness left an indelible mark on those who had the pleasure of working alongside her.

Thelma, who was not only a member of the Woman's Aide Society #86, but she was a trailblazer in her beloved Mt. Carmel community, as well. She proudly served as one of the first Avon representatives in her area, bringing beauty and confidence to the homes of many friends and family members. Known for her sharp mind and independence, she possessed a wry sense of humor, often laughing the most at her own jokes.

She was a fierce matriarch who would do anything for her family, providing unwavering love and support. Her legacy is one of kindness, resilience, and the quiet strength that comes from a life well-lived. She was most proud of being a Mother, Grandmother, Godmother, Great Grandmother, and Great-Great Grandmother.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two daughters: Thelma Patricia "Pat" Jones-Searles and Glossiphene Jones- Bell.

On Thursday, September 3, 2024, at Lakelands Nursing and Rehab Center in Abbeville, South Carolina, Mrs. Thelma L. Gibert Jones departed this life and took a peaceful journey to Eternal Rest surrounded by her loving family at the age of ninety-nine.

She leaves her treasured memories to be cherished by her eldest daughter, Bessie Dean Jones-Manning; one son, John Archie (Robin) Jones; seven grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren; one brother, Wilbur Gibert; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends, and all who had the honor of knowing her. She will be dearly missed.
