Mr. Thomas Atwood, Sr., was born June 23,1946 in Laurens, South Carolina, to the late Will and Minnie Gilliam Atwood. He was preceded in death by his sister, Alma Waters.
Thomas was educated in the public schools of Laurens County South Carolina, and was a proud graduate of Sanders High School, Class of 1964. He later earned his Commercial Driver's License (CDL) from Greenville Technical College.
A true entrepreneur, Thomas founded Atwood Masonary and became a MAster Builder. He held multiple South CArolina state licenses, with masters of trades of carpentry,plumbing, masonry, electrical work, grading, and welding.
Beyond his professional life, Thomas served faithfully as Secretary of the Jeffrey Lodge Masons and was an active member of the Shriners.
Thomas was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Known and respected throughput the community, he was always ready to lend a helping hand-not only through his words but through his actions. He enjoyed hunting and tinkering in his spare time.
Thomas lived in a life of excellence, leaving behind a legacy of integrity, hard work, and faith. His commitment to doing what was right was evident in every aspect of his life and labor.
On Saturday, October 4,2025, Mr. Thomas Atwood, Sr. departed this life at Prisma Health Laurens County Hospital at the age of seventy-nine.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his loving wife, Ella Latimore Atwood; his son, Thomas Atwood, Jr. his daughter, Teresa Atwood; and his grandson, Jobori O'Shay Cooke, of Atlanta, GA. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Larry Latimore of Laurens, SC; eight sisters-in-law: Flossie Latimore, Shirley Pinson, Geneva Briggs, Yvonne (George) Henderson, Linda Grant, Diane Latimore, Emma Latimore, and Mary F. Latimore all of Laurens, SC, along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends who will forever cherish his memory.
